Permanent Makeup is the art of applying pigment particles into the skin to simulate the look of eyeliner, lipstick and eyebrow pencil.  Permanent Makeup is a type of tattooing that is used to enhance a person's natural beauty.

Potential patients for this procedure must first be evaluated in order to determine the best color and application technique for their complexion.  Test patches of the pigments chosen will be inserted into a tiny area two weeks prior to treatment in order to determine potential allergic reactions.  Allergic reactions are very rare and occur in 1 out of 200,000 + patients treated with permanent makeup pigment.  After a negative test patch is confirmed, the patient will require one to two treatments to set the pigment into place.  Anesthetic gels and pastes are used to make you more comfortable during the procedure.

Permanent Makeup can last years after the initial application, but may need to be touched up to freshen the color as needed.  Cosmetic skin products containing AHA's, Retin A, Salicylic acid, etc., can cause colors to fade and sometimes disappear entirely.  Patients need to use gentle acid free products around their makeup sites to reduce fading.  Sun exposure also plays a role in the fading of tattoo ink over time.  Good sunscreens and sunglasses are recommended to cut down on the sun's UVA and UVB rays.

Permanent makeup is a great choice for persons that are allergic to makeup, eyeliners, etc.  It also cuts down on the time needed when applying your makeup regime and gives you some color when you go without cosmetic products.  Swimmers love it.
